with K9 Nose Work® Co-Founder Jill Marie O'Brien

Some of the greatest challenges faced by handlers are to identify, in real time, the effects the human is having on the search environment and the dog through body movement, mental pressure, and over- or under-involvement in the search itself. Humans alter the environment and impact the dog in ways that can help or hinder the dog's performance and search outcome, but handlers are often unaware of how they become "The Fifth Element" for the dog.

Jill Marie will integrate hands-on searches, video review, and group discussion with the goal of participants gaining more awareness of handler influence on the search dog and the whole search environment. This awareness will increase the handler's confidence and pleasure in the role of "team manager."
